Charles Hudson
Charles Hudson is Honorary Director Emeritus of INAS and Professor Emeritus of Anthropology, having pioneered Native American Studies at UGA. He continues to serve on the Steering Committee of INAS. He is internationally recognized as the leading expert in the histories of the indigenous peoples of what is today the American Southeast.
Among Dr. Hudson's many books as author and editor are The Southeastern Indians (1976), Black Drink: A Native American Tea (1979), Ethnology of Southeastern Indians: A Sourcebook (1985), and Knights of Spain, Warriors of the Sun: Hernando de Soto and the South's Ancient Chiefdoms (1997). His most recent book is an ethnographic novel, Conversations with the High Priest of Coosa (2003). He is currently working on a book on the deerskin trade.
In 2004, Dr. Hudson received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of North Carolina in recognition of his long career in Native American Studies.
